Best diesel fuel additives and cleaners
A diesel injector cleaner uses detergents — usually PEA-based — to clear carbon deposits that cause rough idling and poor MPG. One treatment every 5,000 miles is plenty for a modern common-rail engine; dosing every tank wastes money without adding benefit.
What matters when you're choosing
- Polyetheramine (PEA) is the active ingredient worth paying for.
- Add before filling so the additive mixes properly with the fuel.
- Anti-waxing additives matter separately in UK winters below -5°C.

Common questions
Do diesel additives actually work?
For injector deposits and cold-weather waxing, yes — measurably. They cannot fix mechanical faults, DPF blockages or a failing turbo.
How often should I use diesel injector cleaner?
Every 5,000 miles or at each service is the usual guidance. High-mileage or stop-start town cars benefit more than motorway ones.
