Best light mayonnaise in the UK
Light mayonnaise cuts fat by roughly two-thirds, replacing oil with water and thickeners such as modified starch. The trade-off is texture and a slightly sweeter, tangier taste — check the label, as some light versions add sugar to compensate.
What matters when you're choosing
- Compare per-100g fat and sugar, not front-of-pack "light" claims.
- Light mayo splits more easily when heated; keep it for cold dishes.
- Free-range or British Lion egg sourcing is stated on better brands.

Common questions
Is light mayonnaise actually healthier?
It has substantially fewer calories, which helps if you use mayo generously. Some brands offset the fat with added sugar, so read the label.
Does light mayo taste different?
Yes — thinner and tangier. Blending it with a spoon of full-fat mayo or yoghurt gets closer to the original texture.
